Day 1: Starting the Journey

Why I am building an affiliate business in public, the target I set, the book I am using as the playbook, and why this site now has its own name.

This site documents one experiment: build an affiliate business that pays $1,000 a month, three months in a row.

A name for the project

The domain is decided and registered: affiliatefieldnotes.com. The name is meant to say what this project is. These are field notes, written as I go, from putting a playbook into practice. They aren’t a finished guide or expert advice. They’re a record of what I tried, what happened and what I’d change.

It may not look like much yet, but a lot of thought has gone into this. The name, the niche, the Amazon setup, the strategy and the way I plan to write about it all had to fit together before I started. I’m writing that reasoning down here so it’s on record and I can check later whether it held up.

The playbook

The playbook is Nate McCallister’s Evergreen Affiliate Marketing. I follow the book, apply it to a real site, and report what happens here.

The target

  • $1,000 a month in commissions.
  • Three months in a row.
  • Treat it as a proof of concept. If it works, it scales into a bigger project.

The strategy

These decisions are made. I change them only when the data says so.

  1. US market. Amazon.com links only.
  2. Organic SEO first. No paid ads yet.
  3. Low ticket. Books and products people already buy.
  4. Faceless brand. The content does the work, not my face.

Where I am today

  • Approval site live: thecoachingbookshelf.com, with three reviews published.
  • Amazon AU Associates account done. Amazon US Associates tracking ID received.
  • Commissions: $0.

Coming soon

My review of Nate McCallister’s Evergreen Affiliate Marketing is on its way. It’s the book this whole project is built on, so it’s the first review I want to get right.

What comes next

  1. Write the book review.
  2. Start the first lesson from the book on this site and report on it.
  3. Keep publishing.

Each post here covers one lesson from the book and what I did with it. Wins, mistakes and numbers included.
